Cinema Ost – Eastern Europe in the mirror of film
The film tells the story of Anna Kurkurina, a charismatic athlete and passionate animal rights activist. She has loved animals since childhood, worked as a biology teacher and at the zoo. At 40, she began her career in weight training and became the strongest woman in the world. However, her biggest fight is not on the competition stage, but in the Ukrainian war zone – for the survival of abandoned dogs and cats. While sirens wail and explosions shake the city, Anna stays by their side, finding homes for strays or taking them in herself. The film shows her tireless commitment to animals and people and accompanies her in her work as a trainer at the gym. Her interaction with Dima, one of her protégés, is particularly touching. In the midst of destruction and chaos, Anna remains a beacon of hope – strong, fearless and full of compassion.
