A dysfunctional family lives in a luxurious villa complex surrounded by a high fence. The parents shield their children from the outside world, instil in them a false view of the world and raise them using bizarre, cruel methods. Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos (“Poor Things”) gained international recognition in 2009 with his grotesque thriller.
The film premiered on 18 May 2009 at the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival. It won the ‘Un Certain Regard’ award and was also nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category in 2011
